Paying for your journey

Ticket

To travel with public transport, you need a valid ticket, such as an OV-chip card or a debit card. Don't have an OV-chip card or don't want to travel with your debit card?

  • By train: buy an e-ticket or purchase a ticket at the ticket machine at the station.
  • By bus: buy an e-ticket of purchase a ticket from the bus driver. Note that payments in the bus can only be made by card, not cash!

Transfers

Are you transferring to another public transport operator? First check out with the current operator and then check in with the new operator.

Checking in and out

At the train station:

  • Does your train station have gates? Then hold your card against the card reader on the right side.
  • Does your train station have poles? Then check in and out there. At the end of your journey, check out in the same way.

In the bus:

  • Hold your card against the card reader in the bus to check in. At the end of your journey, check out in the same way.

Always check out with the public transport operator where you checked in.
