    Paying for your international trip

    Tickets, OV-chip and bank card

    Dutch tickets, OV-chip card and bank card are valid on bus lines 1, 10, 13, 27, 35, 723, and Arriva lines 44, 350, SB3, and RE18, except between Eijsden and Liège-Guillemins. Here, you can purchase a ticket from the driver. Passengers with a valid Limburg Star subscription can travel on sight.

    Traveling with the Übergangstarif

    For lines 44, 350, SB3, and RE18, the Übergangstarif applies when crossing the border. Belgian fares apply on RE18 to Liège.

    Due to a damaged bridge, there are no trains between Bad Nieuweschans, Weener, and Leer. Trains still run between Groningen and Bad Nieuweschans, with a direct express bus to Leer. For travel between Bad Nieuweschans, Weener, and Leer, take bus line 620 from Weser Ems Bus..

    • Train RS6: Groningen - Bad Nieuweschans
    • Bus line 401, (direct): Groningen - Leer
    • Bus line 620 (stop bus): Bad Nieuweschans - Weener - Leer

    Keep the following in mind while traveling by bus:

    Busline 401: Bicycles and mobility scooters are not allowed. Wheelchairs are permitted.

    This ticket allows a maximum of 3 children to travel with you. The tickets are also valid on the other city lines in Bocholt (lines with a C in front);

    For the buses, you need a valid ticket. Use a single ticket or an OV-chip card checked that has been checked in at the train station. Tickets are available at the Arriva Service Point in Groningen and the DB Service Desk in Leer. E-tickets and Niedersachsen-Ticket plus Groningen are also valid.

    Checking in and out

    • Express bus: Check in and out with your OV-chip card on the bus, or at Groningen and Leer stations.
    • Local bus: Are you continuing your journey with the local bus between Bad Nieuweschans, Weener, and Leer? Then check in at your departure station and out at your arrival station.

    You cannot check in or out on the Weser-Ems bus. Therefore, show your ticket to the driver.

    Bus line C11 takes you from Aalten (Netherlands) station to Bocholt (Germany). It runs Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM. On Saturdays, it runs from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

    The bus service is operated by the German transport company Stadtbus Bocholt. German ticket regulations apply on the bus. For example, OV-chip card is not valid on line C11, and you cannot pay with a debit or credit card.

    You can buy your ticket on the bus or online in advance. You can use the WestfalenTarif app (Veelker). This app can be downloaded from Google Play and the App Store.
